Johansing Vineyard

Planted in 1989 on a bench overlooking the Estrella River basin in the pristine Paso Robles AVA, the Johansing vineyard has exclusively produced quality wine grapes for over 25 years. Warm dry days and cool maritime nights along with deep alluvial soils makes this terroir one of the top wine growing areas in California. With every sip of our Johansing Vineyard wine, you will taste the hard work, and dedication put forth by the Johansing family.

The 2013 vintage was a challenging season in Paso Robles. We began our spring with marginal moisture, the product of non-existent winter rains, followed by a gentle spring with mild temperatures and seasonable conditions gave us excellent flowering and fruit set. From here our temperatures climbed, giving us one big heat spike in July before moderating to normal temperatures to finish the summer. Crop water and vine growth were managed by careful timing of irrigation. Following summer we moved into a vigorous harvest season that presented prefect conditions for excellent ripening at a brisk rate resulting in amazing depth of color and wonderful flavor maturity.

Our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon was handpicked and sorted in the field from selected rows from our oldest block in the vineyard. Prior to maceration, the must was chilled to 50 degrees Fahrenheit  for 48 hours for a rich body and color extraction, Maceration lasted 11 days and was assisted by traditional pump-over to amplify color and flavor release. After fermentation, the wine was drawn off and the skins pressed. After settling, the wine was racked into French and eastern European oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation and matured for 20 months. Prior to bottling the wine received a final racking to stainless steel where the blend was assembled.

This savory 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, dark ruby in color, is acquainted with a rich bouquet of caramel and cassis leading to a mid-pallet depicting lush berry like flavors backed by notes of vanilla and coffee that hang through the finish.
